So I was reading an article out of our Miami News Paper today and it caught my eye because our city council thinks it needs Sen. Inhofe and Rep. Boren's help to pitch some projects around Miami. Ok so thats cool no big deal. The city put together a list for them to work on at a federal level, instead of the normal state level help we get.
This list consist of:
> Getting the Corps of Eengineering Flood Remediation Study for Miami funded; costing about $7 million.
>Work on getting money for the bridge at Central Avenue and Elm that was damaged by the 2007 flood; costing about $1.2 million, state paying $750,000 and the Bureau of Indian Affairs and federal government paying the other $450,000.
>Tar creek clean up; Seek money to remove trees, debris and brush along Tar Creek from the Neosho River to 22nd St. in Miami.
>Create a Grand Lake Consortium to make it sustainable.
>Bring a federal/private prison to Miami.
>Economic development partnership with NEO A&M College to deal with flood issues, etc.
> Get the old BF Goodrich plant site under the city's ownership, and do major cleanup and turn it into a prime industrial development.
>Work to get additional money for the airport.
>Elevate Highway 125 by the bridge by the fairgrounds.
>Build new turnpike gates to tie in north of wal-mart.
With all this being said, it makes a mockery of what Miami really needs. Ok the clean up of tar creek I do agree on that needs done. Come on though, a private prison, please we do not need that. It's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard! Taking over the BF Goodrich plant I can understand, it could be something great and maybe create more jobs around this place. I do not see how the airport would need more money, we do not have big planes that fly into Miami, we do not need them. Our city is not big enough to expand the airport, so why should they get money? We do not need new turnpike gates on the North side of town, why would we? We have two main roads that lead to the turn pike gates we have now and that is good enough. I can think of one way possible this might benefit our community and that is when Buffalo Run hosts a big event, like when the Rascal Flats come in town. That way our main roads arent congested. Yet these do nothing to address our roads in this town. Why not get some government funded money to fix our streets that are so bad it is tearing up our vehicles unless you have a big ass truck. I hope while they are in Miami, they fall into a pot whole and blow a tire so they will see first hand that this is a big issue that needs revising and fixed. I see half that stuff on that list as a waist of our time and money and it doesnt benefit the community as a whole, so why do it!!! Why not fix our raods that need it the most? I wish our city council would think about its people that live in this city rather then what looks good to the eye!!! It makes me laugh, sarcastically to read this article!!!!
